Everyone’s at it, so we thought we’d join in – Blogging, that is. Welcome to the first KEHS PA blog entry.
Hopefully if you are reading this you were at Grasstonbury (the school charity fete on the last day of the summer term). The PA committee provided their regular barbecue, serving hundreds of hotdogs and burgers to the assembled girls, siblings, parents, teachers, and of course KES boys who enjoyed this year’s fete. The vagaries of the English summer meant that it was touch and go whether stalls would be inside or out but a decision was made to ignore the chance of rain and go ahead outside. Luckily it paid off and a good time was had by all.
It’s typical of the way KEHS operates that the fete is not about raising money for the school but for a selection of charities. The Parents’ Association committee enjoy helping to contribute to this with the profits made on the barbecue sales.
This will not be our only event this year and we hope you will look out for information in the Termly Calendar your daughter brings home. For those whose daughters are starting school this term, welcome. You are members of the PA and our first opportunity to meet you will be on Wednesday 5th October at the New Parents’ Social after the Information Evening. We do hope you will come along, if only to try the excellent samosas we will be serving (as well as a selection of drinks and other nibbles). It’s the first of, hopefully, many PA events you will enjoy during your daughter’s time at KEHS. This is an excellent way to meet other parents with girls starting at school with your daughter as well as meeting the Parents’ Association committee who are keen to encourage you to join us if you enjoy “getting stuck in” to organise events. Not everyone can commit to that but please come along to the other events we hold during the year.
The next item to go in everyone’s diary should be the Quiz on Friday November 18th Start to gather your team of 8 – application forms will be available early this term. Remember it’s not winning that’s important; it’s the taking part so don’t be shy, come along.
The PA is not all about raising money – the aim is to provide a few extras that school fees don’t cover (most recently the electronic projector screen in the school hall) – but a key function is to enable parents and, at some events, girls to socialise and get to know each other better.
Please use the blog to comment on events, suggest new ideas or offer your help on the committee.
My name is Gillian Cloke (daughters, Catherine Hodge – just left U6, and Verity Hodge – just entering L6). My roles on the PA are Administration and Second Hand Uniform Sales (held at most At Homes – please donate clothes and stock up with replacements). I joined when Catherine was lower down the school and have found it a rewarding way to become involved with school activities and to meet other parents from different years. Other officers are Events Coordinator, Anju Mehta (daughter Surina, entering U6) and Treasurer, Jackie Hendley, (daughter Dani, entering U5). The other members of the committee, chaired by Miss Evans, are parents from all years of the school who work with Anju to organise and run the events during the year.
We look forward to hearing from you soon …
