Secretary’s Report for the Year 2011-2012

KEHS PA has enjoyed a successful year.  The events that we have hosted and organised have been well attended and seemed to be appreciated by most people.

The committee is modern & forward thinking and hence, we have started a blog.  The PA blogs can be found at on the School website.

This academic year commenced without Miss Evans present as she was on her sabbatical until November.

The first event that the PA hosted was The New Parents’ Social Evening in October and it went very well.  Firstly, the new parents met Miss Warne & Mrs Smith in the lecture theatre & then they came down to the Hall for more informal mingling & refreshments that the PA had arranged.  The evening had a different format to one that is usually followed and it worked well.

The second KEHS PA event was our first fundraiser of the term – the family Quiz Night held on Friday18th November in the school hall.  There’s a fair amount of work that is required for this event from the purchase of the food and prizes to arranging the platters and laying out the hall in preparation for the evening.  Most PA members helped out which really helped to spread the workload.

We had a good turnout – almost 80 people took part in the quiz.  One table was exclusively just under 18s, although there were others dotted around helping out the adults!

We had a new Quiz Mistress this year who was well received especially with her use of modern technology & the screen in the hall (which the PA had provided a few years earlier from funds raised at our events).  A ploughman’s supper was served along with hot samosas; a good time was had by all.

For the first time, the PA served refreshments at the evening Carol Service on Wednesday, 14th December at Edgbaston Old Church.  The mince pies & drinks were provided by the School’s catering staff & brought up to the Church by the porters so all that remained for us to do was to set up the tables and serve – by far the easiest task that the PA has undertaken.

Our Spring Term event, Mumbai Dreamz, which was held on Friday, 24th February, was also a successful evening.  It is the PA event that has the highest attendance and the one that creates the most work: arranging the entertainment, the catering, sourcing the raffle prizes and advertising the event in the hope of selling plenty of tickets.

The most difficult part is usually organising the entertainment.  However, this was much easier than usual as Ranjit Nair (one of our PA members) offered to arrange for his daughter and three other girls from her specialist dance school to dance for us.  They were fabulous!  We were also lucky this year in that Delsa Ghorbani (an Upper Sixth pupil) also expressed a desire to sing & play her guitar for us & she went down a storm!

We also held the sari tying competition for the second year running.  This has the potential for being a main stay in Mumbai Dreamz but requires better organisation & management.

The henna applying was as popular as ever.

The food was well received including the tropical fruit platters.

The drawing of the raffle prizes brought the fun evening to an end.

All in all, a good evening and we managed to make it more profitable than the last couple of years.  Photographs of this event may be viewed at

We look forward to running the barbecue stall at the Summer Fete in July.

This year the PA donated £5000 towards the purchase of a new state of the art sound system in the school hall.

So to summarise, we have had a good year.  However, the success of all the KEHS PA events proves how efficient teamwork is integral to the smooth running of each event.
